Community
Profiles

The final afternoon of the conference was spent identifying the indicators that would help us recognize that the desired activities were taking place in the communities. Each group was asked to identify at least two things under the headings of smell, hear, taste, see, touch and count that would help us know we are moving in the right direction. These indicators are written on the pink slips and placed in strategic locations on the list of tasks that were created that morning. Here Dawn Carpenter explains the route her group would take to achieve their goal and how they would know that they are getting there.
The members of the other groups are able to build on their own experiences in developing their strategies and indicators of success.
Les Meekis helped everyone laugh as he described the path his group was recommending to achieve their goal for a healthy community.
Caren Nasmith and Bernie Blake of Bell Canada listened to the plans being presented to the entire group.
Ricardo prepared a summary of the "A menu of tools" which examined the various electronic tools we used throughout the conference and at the different planning tools everyone experienced.
The final exercise was a form of conference evaluation where everyone could reflect on their original expectations for the gathering that were grouped on the coloured cards on the wall. Everyone had to put a small coloured Post-It note on those groups of expectations that were in two categories, themes we wanted to learn more about had a blue note and those themes we learned most about in this workshop took our yellow sheet of paper. The totals are noted in the EXPECTATIONS.
Ricardo summarized the work that was achieved during this conference and challenged everyone to take these Best Practices home to each of the First Nations.
Traditional dream catchers made during the conference by Stephanie Meekis, the Keewaytinook Okimakanak Receptionist, were presented to Ricardo and Don in appreciation for the teachings and work they shared with the group.
And finally everyone sang Happy Birthday to our special Darlene Rae and enjoyed a piece of birthday cake to wrap up this excellent learning and growing experience.
