Mathew Chan
holds a Master’s degree in civil engineering and is a registered
professional engineer in Ontario.
Mathew joined
the federal government as a bridge and marine structure design engineer
with Public Works and Government Services Canada (PWGSC) in 1976.
His career in PWGSC from 1976 to 1990 took him from engineering
design to R&D work involving the innovative use of computer
technologies in solving engineering problems. This included the
development of structural analysis and design software and the integration
of relational databases with graphics systems such as CAD and GIS.
From 1991 to
1995, Mathew was the manager of Maintenance Systems for the Technical
Services unit of Indian and Northern Affairs Canada (INAC), and
from 1996 to 2000, he held the position of Director, Asset Management
and Policy Support, Real Property Services for INAC. Since July
2000, Mathew has been the Project Director of Government On-Line
(GOL) for INAC. In this capacity, his responsibilities include the
coordination of GOL activities within INAC, and interfacing with
other federal departments and central agencies to ensure that the
department’s GOL objectives are consistent with the broader government
objectives and principles of GOL.
