Overview

The state-of-the-art NICSN satellite network allows for broadband communications over satellite in a fully meshed environment. Purchased from ViaSat, this system allows any community to become a hub site and ensures traffic between two points can be achieved with just a single satellite hop.

The ViaSat solution is the outcome of extensive testing and research carried out by K-Net staff, the Communications Research Centre, and Telesat Canda Research and Development staff. With the addition of digital video broadband, the data to the community is sent more efficiently in a larger stream. Quality of service and prefetching techniques allow for higher capacity to the communities while allowing Telemedicine, Telehealth, justice, governance and other applications to operate both simultaneously and in a scheduled fashion across the Public Benefits Transponder.

Jean-François Delorme will be demonstrating the network management procedures from K-Net's Data Centre located in the small white building beside the K-Net offices at 115 King Street .
