Blue Mason, Computer Technician
Keewaywin First Nation

Blue Mason is a Keewaywin First Nation band member who has been using information and communications technologies (ICTs) for three years. As the E-Centre’s Computer Technician, his job is to ensure that all the SMART tools used in the community are up to date and operational and that everyone in the community is happy with the E-Centre’s services.

Encouraging community members to use the technology "because its here and it’s useful," and to use it productively are the two priorities that motivate Blue's work each day. For the past three years he has looked after all aspects of the community’s connections, from fixing computers to hooking up houses to making sure the E-Centre is running in tip top shape.

"I do a lot of repair work in the office, I also do training from time to time," Mason said, explaining that he recently held a workshop for community members about reinstalling the operating system on their computers. Mason also noted that he tries to explain how the ICTs work in a way that an ordinary computer user will understand.
