David McKay, Multi-media producer
Keewaywin First Nation

David McKay is a Keewaywin First Nation band member who has been using information and communications technologies (ICTs) for three years. As the E-Centre’s Multi-media Producer, he trains community members on ICTs, updates the community portal, keewaywin.firstnation.ca, supervises one of the community’s E-Centres, and looks after the community CAP site.

Raising the awareness of ICTs in the community and training community members on the use of the SMART tools are the two priorities that motivate David’s work each day. For the past three years he has worked hard to set up the community portal and to train band employees how to use the ICTs in their workplace.

"When I see people using computers, I feel that I have done my job," McKay said, explaining that one of the interesting aspects to his role is the teaching of ICTs to people without much formal education. He remembers teaching chat to an adult who didn’t know how to read or write very well. That person now teaches others how to use chat. McKay’s future goal is to continue improving the community portal and to pass it on to the younger generation.
